Yes, we encourage everyone to come along for a free trial period of 3- 4 weeks to see what they think. It gives you a chance to find out more about Scouting and what we do. During the trial period if you think you would like to join and continue your Scouting Journey we will then take you through the membership process. If you decide Scouts is not for you then that's ok we just hope you enjoyed your time with us. Please contact us to arrange a trial. Please be aware all our Sections are currently full and we will not be taking on any new youth members until Term 1 2022
Annual Fees are due in February and are currently - $360 per 12mths (please note this amount may be increased for 2022)
There is also a joining fee of $50 which covers the cost of a scarf, woggle and badges.
Camps and other external activities are not included in your annual fees but we do try to keep these costs down to a minimum. Major events such as Cuboree and Jamboree can be expensive but group fundraising can often help cover the cost of these.
Your shirt can be purchased from the Scout Shop, delivery is free. This can be worn with either shorts or pants, and we also have our own Red Hill Hoodies that can be purchased at the hall.
A Red Hill scarf, woggle and badges will be awarded at your investment ceremony.
YES, YES, and YES!!
The whole group is run by volunteers, including Leaders, Committee members, Market Coordinators and Parent Helpers. Every family that joins Red Hill is obligated to help out out our 'Scones and Billy Tea' stall held at each Red Hill Market. We are also always on the look out for new Leaders and Committee to help share the work load. More on Market Duties can be found here: Market Duties
We do have a wide range of camping equipment such as tents, ropes, and cooking gear but your child will need to have personal equipment such as a sleeping bag, day pack, rain coat and good hiking boots. These can be purchased over time and are not required straight away, Your section leaders will advise you which camps/activities are planned for each term and what equipment will be required.
Overnight camps, sleepovers and external activities are always optional and we understand this might be a child's first night away from home. Section leaders will get to know your child and will discuss the options with you and your child.
Yes. Scouts are still able to earn badges. You can read more about our new program here Achievement Pathway
We understand that making our organisation Child Safe isn’t as simple as saying that it is. Here are a selection of the things that we do to make our organisation safe for children:
All of our adult members (anyone registered as a member and over the age of 18, regardless of whether their role results in their having contact with children) are required to hold a Working With Children Check (WWCC). This includes adult helpers, committee members and Rover Scouts, as well as employees
All leaders (that is, anyone that wears a leader uniform – the one with navy blue sleeves) and adult helpers are required to undergo a National Police Records Check
All Leaders, when applying for membership, must provide three referees, regardless of whether they are already a member of Scouting. These referees are each asked a number of questions about the applicants suitability for the role
All adult members must agree and adhere to the Code of conduct for adults in Scouting and Code of Ethics. Any breach of these codes can result in a termination of membership
‘Two adult leadership’ – Leaders are expected to ensure that there are at least two leaders present on any activity, with more as required by the appropriate leader/youth ratio for the age group, except for activities where – appropriate to the maturity of the young people and the type of activity – young people are taking part without adults present at all
‘Within sight, out of hearing’ – Leaders are expected to avoid any situation where they are alone with a child, except where strictly necessary. They are taught to keep in sight, but out of hearing, whenever one-on-one conversations are necessary
All of our adult members are required to undertake training, including training in Child Safe practices
Any reports of child abuse are taken seriously and dealt with promptly
We are currently working to ensure details on how to report any instances of abuse are both accessible and readily available to all of our members and the wider community, both through the Scouts Victoria webpage, our written publications, and readily displayed in all our halls and meeting places
Please send all enquires to 1stredhillscouts@gmail.com or send us a message via our facebook page 1st Red Hill Scout Group.
