1929 1st Lone Scout at Main Ridge, Red Hill
1931 May -Scout troop commenced. Met at the Price home in Thomas Rd. Scoutmaster was Mr Cheadle No registrations were made with Scout HQ. It is reported that the scout master later took the funds and disappeared!
1935 15th October - 1st Red Hill Scout Group registered by the Boy Scouts Association. The Scouts met in the Methodist Church, Red Hill, opposite where the Watermill Stud Farm is today.
1940 18th October - a meeting of parents agreed to start a Cub Pack.
1941 21st March – Cubs and Scouts were invested.
1941 The land 91 Arthurs Seat Road was donated to Scouting by Mr. Fred Nash, in memory of his late father.
The First Building
A Cub Den (still standing and now known as the Venturers hut) was constructed in the top corner of the property by a working bee under the guidance of Herb Littlejohn. A big rock, probably there from the road construction days, was used as the “Council Rock”. This rock is still used today and sits in front of the flag pole.
1951 A Oak Tree was planted by T Littlejohn this oak tree still stands at the top of White Hill Rd. It is believed the acorn came from the Gilwell Oak Tree in England
1954 21st November – Official opening of the brick hall. This is now known as the Ceremonial Hall. At some time between 1954 and 1961 the kitchen was added
1961 Opening of the second hall, now known as the Games Hall.
1970 The Large Shed (garage) was built.
1975 Market Stall The Red Hill Scouts started the “Scones, Jam and Cream with Billy Tea stall in the very early days of the Red Hill Market. The setup of camp ovens and a trench fire for hot water remains a great and continuing source of funds.
1980’s The Q-Store, toilets and shower block were built.
2013 December – Mr. Ray Holmes, Red Hill’s 1st King Scout in 1944, kindly donated a new stone wall for a meeting place in the grounds, together with a new flag pole and a bronze plaque commemorating his mother Silvia, who was a long time Cub Leader at Red Hill. The council rock (from 1941) was moved to it’s new home
2013 Renovations Wheels are in motion! Planning is well underway for a revamped hall. It is expected the new roof on the parade hall, two indoor bathrooms and a leaders den will be constructed in the not too distant future. Removal of asbestos. Don’t worry the existing halls will remain.
2015 October 15th Red Hill Scouts turns 80 years old.
2016 Building works have begun to take place.
2017 23rd April -Official opening of Hall Extensions.
2019 Planning for the future Fundraising is underway to rebuild and extend the kitchen.
2020/2021 COVID-19 Kitchen plans on hold.
